Do I need an accountancy degree?

No, we take on graduates with any degree discipline, work experience or background. Recent graduates have held degrees in Arts and English literature, Economics and Biosciences. A strong academic record, enthusiasm and determination are more important attributes to us.

What are the minimum requirements?

Scott-Moncrieff’s minimum requirements are a 2:1 degree (either expected or obtained). The qualification you will be studying towards requires graduates with a strong academic ability. Our selection criteria has been developed over a substantial period of time using our current trainees as the benchmark and we have found that those with a strong university pass are more likely to complete the qualification.

What response should I expect once I have submitted my application?

You will be contacted by letter if you have been unsuccessful but if you have managed to reach the next stage in the process (online testing) we will email you with information on how to complete the tests. After this stage, and for the rest of the process, we will contact you by letter, but if you have any questions during the process you can call 0141 567 4500 or email graduate.recruitment@scott-moncrieff.com.

If my application is unsuccessful, can I re-apply?

We will only consider one application per candidate per year. If you do not get through this year you can re-apply for next year’s intake but you will need to submit a new application.

Can I apply for more than one location?

As we have offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh and offer training contracts in both locations you can apply for either. We're moving offices in Edinburgh  later in 2009. See May 2009 In the Press  >more

Is there a deadline for applications?

Our application deadline is the 1st of December 2010, however, we will conduct Assessment Days throughout October, November and December and if we find candidates of a suitable quality we will make offers. So please ensure you apply early to avoid disappointment.

What are the secondment opportunities?

There are opportunities for our trainees to go on secondment to other offices, or with our clients across Scotland. There is also the chance to work overseas within our international network Moore Stephens International. These opportunities are open to trainees once they have completed their training with the firm. Recent secondee’s have been placed in Hong Kong, Melbourne and closer to home with Aegon.

I require a work permit, do you accept applications from overseas graduates or this with post-study status?

Unfortunately we can only accept applications from people who are already entitled to live and work in the UK without restriction on type of employment or length of stay.

The law states that in order for Scott-Moncrieff to obtain a work permit on your behalf we need to prove that we have been unable to recruit a suitable person with a “resident worker” status (a “resident worker” is defined as a European Economic Area national or a person who has settled status in the UK within the meaning of the Immigration Act 1971). As we can receive many applications from “resident workers” whose experience and skills match our requirements, we could not justify this.

How do I apply for work experience?

Please use the link on the right-hand side of the page to Apply Now where you will find information on how to apply for work experience. As with the graduate positions there is a closing date which is the 28th February 2011.
